When creating process variants or dedicated process instances, it might be necessary to change names, descriptions, or other attributes of process elements that originate from a process module and are therefore read-only.

To achieve this, process modelers can use the “Overwrite” operation on a process element. After the element has been overwritten, name, description, and other element attributes can be locally modified and are not being updated through subsequent process module updates anymore. Element associations are still being updated.

Local modifications can be removed and the original element can be made visible again by using the “Restore” operation. After a restore, the element will continue to be updated through process module updates again.
